What does Community Action do?

Community Action provides local low-income families with access to critical basic necessities while also providing long-term support to help them overcome poverty.

 

When was Community Action founded?

Community Action was first established in the intermountain region in 1967. It is a private, non-profit organization that was created to help individuals living in poverty.

 

What is the mission of Community Action?

Community Action is dedicated to fostering self-reliance in individuals, families and the community. It doesn’t simply hand out food to those in need. Those needing assistance of any kind are required to meet with a counselor to assess the cause of need and allocate appropriate amounts of food and/or other resources.

Community Action also offers short- and long-term help through programs focused on specific aspects of an impoverished life.

 

How can I donate?

Money donations can be made by clicking here.

Food donations can be made by bringing items to the Community Action Food Bank located in Provo. In order toreceive a donation receipt, donations must be made Monday-Friday, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Learn more

 

Where is Community Action located?

The main office of Community Action is located in Provo, Utah at 815 S. Freedom Blvd. Other offices and Food Pantries in Summit, Wasatch and Utah counties are listed here.

 

In addition to the food bank what other programs does Community Action offer?

  • The Family Development Program helps families find stable housing, employment and other basic needs. Learn more

  • A Backpacks for Kids Program which provides food over weekends to children in need.

Who does Community Action serve?

Community Action serves families living in Utah, Wasatch and Summit counties. Some programs are designed to help low-income families, while others are available to all residents in our service area.

How can I receive services?

Community Action is open Monday through Thursday 8:00 am to 4 pm and 8:00 am to 3 pm on Friday. For food assistance, walk-ins are accepted. All other programs require an appointment. Learn more

How is Community Action funded?

Community Action’s funding comes from a variety of sources including: local, state and federal grants as well as private donations from individuals and corporations.
