There are always ways to serve at Community Action Services and Food Bank. Whether you’re an individual, business, church, or other group, we have ways that you can help make a difference.
The following projects can be completed on your own, but are especially effective if you have a group of people interested in serving. If you are interested in any of the following projects listed below and would like to schedule a volunteer time or learn more, please contact our volunteer coordinator by emailing VC@CommunityActionUC.org or by calling 801-373-8200 ext. 247.
Food Bank
Our food bank is always busy, especially during large food drives. Individuals that volunteer in the food bank may perform one of many important jobs. These may include: sorting cans, filling food boxes, stocking pantry shelves, etc. If you are interested in volunteering in the food bank, please contact our volunteer coordinator to schedule a timeby emailing VC@CommunityActionUC.org or by calling 801-373-8200 ext. 247.
Specialty Kits
Many of the low-income families we serve lack some of the most basic necessities that others often take for granted. You can help families by collecting the items found in a specific kit and then compiling them. We will ensure that the kits are distributed to a family in need. Host a Food Drive
Your group or organization can host a food drive of your own. You can promote food donations by placing bags or boxes in your office for group members to donate. Some organizations chose to host a specialty item drive to collect items such as diapers, toilet paper or other hygiene items.
There are certain items that the food bank is always in need of. It would be greatly appreciated if these specific items were a focus when making a donation. To learn which items are needed right now click here. Items are listed in order of need. Visit our Giving Food menu to learn more.
You might also consider hosting a virtual food drive to collect money for the food bank. Virtual food drives allow friends and family to particpate without actually having to leave their homes. With our resources, we can turn a $1 donation into 17 pounds of food.
Fundraising
CASFB provides more than just food to those in need. We also offer client services and assistance. These programs require funds and are dependent on donations. By hosting a fundraiser you can help raise money that can be used to prevent families from becoming homeless, avoid a foreclosure, or go wihtout food. Groups are invited to come up with their own ideas on how to raise money. Some community supporters have created concerts, car washes, golf tournaments, bake sales and carnivals with CASFB as the benefactor. The greatest succeses aren’t always the biggest events, but something the organizer was passionate about.
Grow a Row
The food bank is always in need of fresh nutrient-filled food. If each gardener were to add one extra row to their garden and donate the fruit and vegetables they grow there, we would have a much greater supply of fresh produce. This is a simple act that can have a large affect on those who rely on the food bank. Some organizations, like Provo City, have donated space that was used for planting flowers for their employees to grow produce for the food bank.
Back to School
Anyone who has ever shopped for school supplies knows that binders, pencils, books, and calculators can add up quickly, especially when you have more than one child. These necessary items are often difficult to come by for families that are struggling financially. Help a student by donating extra school supplies this year.
