Circles Junior Leadership Program, a community-driven approach that helps families move from surviving to thriving. By addressing the needs of parents and children, we can improve the outcome for the whole family. At Community Action Services and Food Bank, we’re always seeking ways to empower families and break the cycle of poverty.

Through mentoring, education, and community support, and giving individuals the tools they need to achieve long-term self-reliance.

What is the Circles Junior Leadership Program?
The Circles Junior Leadership Program focuses on providing teenagers with the skills, knowledge, and mentorship they need to build a successful future. The program is designed to help youth, ages 12-18, create financially centered SMART goals, understand healthy relationships, and develop life skills that will carry them into adulthood.

Our program goals include:

  • Helping teens create a 5-year plan that includes graduating from high school.
  • Teaching financial literacy, including opening a savings account by the end of the program.
  • Providing guidance on setting and achieving realistic goals through financial SMART goals.
  • Instilling a better understanding of essential life skills like budgeting, decision-making, and relationship-building.

The Circles Youth Development Program provides youth with the support and resources they need to break the cycle of generational poverty. By focusing on financial empowerment, goal setting, and life skills, we aim to give teens a strong foundation for their future.

Why the Circles Junior Leadership Program Matters
Breaking the cycle of poverty starts with preparing the next generation. By equipping teens with the financial knowledge and life skills they need, the Circles Junior Leadership Program helps them avoid common pitfalls that can lead to poverty. The program’s curriculum is designed to be interactive and practical, giving participants tools they can immediately apply to their lives.

Why join?
While the program covers financial topics, we understand that not every 12-year-old is ready to dive deep into finances. That’s why we plan to split our program into two groups—ages 12-15 and 16-18—so we can tailor the material to the appropriate age group and ensure it resonates with each participant.

With the help of our partners, including Refuge Utah, Encircle, Family Haven, and America First Credit Union, we provide teens with a well-rounded curriculum that touches on everything from emotional wellness to practical financial knowledge.
