- Getting your belongings after a lock out.
- Eviction record expungement.
- Bad living conditions.
- Mediation.
- Knowing what your options are.
Advocate’s Scope of Services
Below is a list of services our Advocates are certified to provide, along with a brief explanation of each service. After completing a legal intake interview with you, the Advocate will indicate which services they will provide you with your specific housing legal issue(s). Participating in an intake interview does not guarantee that Advocate will be able to provide you with any specific legal help.
- Legal Intake: Advocate will review your case to identify any legal issue(s) that they are certified to help with.
- Legal Advice: Based on the law and the facts and documents you provide, our Advocate will advise you on your rights and responsibilities, potential options for resolution, and likelihood of success.
- Document and Form Completion: Advocate helps complete legal forms or court pleadings.
- Negotiation Preparation: Advocate helps you prepare to discuss the issue with your landlord with the goal of finding a solution.
- Negotiation: Advocate negotiates on your behalf with your landlord with the goal of finding a solution to the legal issue.
- Court Preparation: Advocate helps you to prepare to present your case in front of a judge.
- In-Court Assistance: Advocate sits with you in court and provides limited, quiet guidance on how to interact with the court. Advocate cannot speak to the judge for you.
- Referrals: Advocate provides referrals to other social services or legal services that may be able to help you resolve the issue(s) identified during legal intake

When speaking with an Advocate, you will need to sign a Limited Scope Representation Agreement before receiving legal services in dealing with housing legal issues.
We cannot help with discrimination, Fair Housing, subsidies, public housing legal issues. There is no guarantee of services.
Availability is dependent on our advocates' workload. Community Action Services and Food Bank reserve the right to refuse services.

Our Advocates are certified through Community Justice Advocates of Utah (“CJAU”), to provide legal services in housing matters only.
